50 Shades of Q&A

This will be the sum of my blog post about 50 Shades of Grey, and then I’ll address some questions that are surely to come up:

Not only should you not read it or watch it, it is a sin to do so, and you need to repent of that sin.

Easy enough.  Now, on to the questions:

Wait, did you say it was a sin to read it?

Yes.

A book?

It’s porn.  It is a sin to read or watch porn.

It’s erotica.

That’s another word for porn.

But it’s at the bookstore, not some adult bookstore somewhere!  That means it’s not porn.

Take your argument up with Amazon:

What about Christian freedom?

The Christian is freed to righteousness, not sin.  Sin is still sin.

But it’s a small sin!  Not a big deal.

Take it up with Jesus, who said, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell.”  (Matthew 5:27-30).

Well, but I’m just reading/watching it so I have a better idea of what’s going on with the culture.

So you commit adultery so you can have a better idea of what’s going on with the culture?  Is that what you really meant to say?

Don’t you have to read/watch it to be able to comment on it?

Do you really think that?  You have to watch porn to know that it’s bad?

Well, I’m reviewing it to warn people away.

You need to read/watch porn in order to warn people away?

Er, yes?

No.

No?

No.  Christians don’t review porn.  That’s a sin.

And what if the Christian will not repent of this sin?

Then that Christian should be disciplined by his/her elders.

For reading a book?

For engaging in pornography, yes.

Is it that serious?

“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”  -1 Corinthians 6:9-10

And what if someone does repent and has faith in Christ?

Then that person will find forgiveness for their sins, this one included, as with all Christians.  We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, but Jesus, in His love and mercy, took the sins of His people upon Himself on the Cross.  He reconciles the children of God back to the Father, and we will glorify Him and enjoy Him forever.

Which is better than a wicked Hollywood movie.
